Interim Head of Digital for Matsmart/Motatos

A part of this role was to optimize and control customer acquisition and reactivation costs, so as to achieve a healthy balance between the customer lifetime value and the costs to retain and acquire customers.

Matsmart was founded in 2014 with the simple idea that good food should not go to waste. An online food retailer, on a mission to reduce food waste. By providing an alternative route to market for surplus food, they aim to revolutionize and challenge the perception and consumption of food. Their discounted prices enable customers to save money, while doing something good for the environment.
Today Matsmart is one of the fastest growing companies in the Nordics, present in four markets and with over 370MSEK in annual revenue.
Early 2020 Matsmart had a recruitment process ahead of them and decided to use our interim solution to not lose momentum. Our senior consultant Kenny Renes took over as interim Head of Digital, during a critical time for the brand. In the midst of a rebranding with a digital brand campaign, launch of new markets and the target to reach profitability, which is unique and highly ambitious in the e-commerce segment for food.
A part of this role was to optimize and control customer acquisition and reactivation costs, so as to achieve a healthy balance between the customer lifetime value and the costs to retain and acquire customers.
In the course of the assignment Kenny set up new reporting structures, optimized digital marketing in markets with high brand awareness and established tremendous traction in new markets. The overarching themes of the assignment were attribution, digital marketing effectiveness, brand versus performance marketing and long-term brand building versus short-term sales results.
Our consultants settle in fast, get to know the company, its people and targets and ensure continuation. While at the same time recruitment for the role was happening in the background.
Near the end of our assignment Kenny prepared a handover and stayed on for a while, side by side to secure smooth transition.
